Utah has one of the highest children’s uninsured rates in the country. When kids lack health insurance they are often forced to get care in emergency rooms –meaning uncompensated care costs go up and everyone pays the price through higher health insurance premiums. Utah is home to 879,500 children or almost 30% of the total state population. Currently about 71,000 – or 7% - of Utah children lack health coverage. Furthermore, there are disparities faced by different groups of children: Latina/o or Hispanic children are twice as likely to be uninsured compared to White children.

Additionally, thousands of Utah children are ineligible for any type of health insurance because of their immigration status. Undocumented children and their families live across the state. The counties with the highest foreign-born populations are: Cache County, Davis County, Salt Lake County, Utah County, Washington County, and Weber County.

How Do We Reach 100% Health Coverage for Utah kids?

  1. Cover all kids, regardless of background of immigration status
  2. Help families get covered and stay covered
  3. Keep kids covered all year round
  4. Expand Medicaid: Coverage for Parents is Good for Kids

Together we can reach 100% coverage for Utah kids, so all kids reach their full potential!
