You may have extra money waiting for you. If you qualify for and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), it could be worth $6,143 from the IRS for some workers. But one in five people who qualify for this tax credit forget to claim it when they submit their taxes!

If you or someone you know earned less than $52,427, check it out. It’s easy to find out if you qualify. Use the EITC Assistant and answer questions about yourself and other family members to see if you qualify and estimate the amount of your credit. EITC eligibility depends on several factors, including income and family size.

The IRS offers free tax preparation help to low-income or elderly individuals. Find free tax preparation help with this Locator Tool. Also, you can prepare and file your own taxes with professional software using IRS’s Free File.

EITC is celebrating its 40th birthday!  For the last 40 years, the EITC has brought extra cash to millions of workers.
