What was your favorite thing about being a child, and do you try to hold onto that spirit as an adult?
Baking...and yes(!) I love baking and cooking to this very day.
What was your favorite meal or dish that your family would make, and do you still enjoy it today?
Spaghetti was a family favorite and yes it still is.
What was your favorite toy or game to play with as a child?
I enjoyed making up games with my siblings and the other children in our neighborhood.
What was the most challenging experience you faced as a child, and how did you overcome it?
The greatest challenge was moving every few years. I'm not sure I "overcame it" so much as i came to understand much later in life is that all those moves made it possible for me to take risk when others might chose a safer option.
What was the most valuable lesson you learned as a child, and how has it influenced your life today?
In high school, I was fortunate to attend a school whose motto was "Serviam", Latin for "I will serve". As part of our education, we were required to volunteer in the community one morning a week throughout our senior year. I was a volunteer English teacher to a group of immigrant children whose families fled their war-torn home country. The children had so very little and yet, each week, they gave me an incredible gift...the gift of joy. I have never forgotten my time in serviam and I have tried to incorporate community service into my life ever since.
