Make an Impact: We’re Hiring a Policy Analyst!

Voices for Utah Children is Utah’s leading child advocacy organization. Our primary mission is to advance policies and practices that are good for all of Utah’s children. We focus on the following policy areas: Children’s Health, Early Care and Learning, Family Economic Success, Immigrant Families, and Juvenile Justice. Additionally, Voices is a critical hub for data on Utah’s children; we publish the state’s annual KIDS COUNT report, which tracks the well-being of children.

We are seeking an experienced Children's Health Policy Analyst to join our team. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in children’s health issues and trends by analyzing data, legislation, policy reports, laws, regulations, and research, while monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for improvements in children’s health care and public health insurance programs at both the state and federal levels.
  • Conduct research and create impactful content, including policy briefs and reports, blogs, fact sheets, and resources for partners, legislative leaders, and the public.
  • Coordinate and lead the 100% Kids Coverage Coalition, maintaining new partnerships with diverse organizations across the state.
  • Coordinate and support campaigns to advance health policies affecting low-income children and families across the state.
  • Simplify and translate complex information and large quantities of data into understandable and actionable insights for decision-makers, the media, and the public.
  • Collaborate with the communications director to produce engaging content, including blogs, graphics, and videos, and act as a media contact on key issues. 
  • Meet and build relationships with lawmakers, state and community leaders to educate, build awareness and advance change around key policy issues.
  • Media point person on key policy issues regarding children’s health.
  • Serve as a representative of the organization on designated coalitions, committees, or other working groups.
  • Collaborate as necessary with fellow staff to advance Voices’ mission and vision.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent research or work experience is required.
  • Preference for backgrounds in public policy, advocacy, research, or healthcare.
  • Familiarity with public health insurance programs and policies such as Medicaid and CHIP.
  • Knowledge of legislative processes, government structures, and policy development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly to a range of audiences both in writing, through public speaking, and on social media.
  • Strong research skills, with experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated capacity and comfort level to work with and engage with communities and community organizations, coalitions, policymakers, advocates, and the news media.
  • Ability to think strategically about opportunities to influence public policy.
  • Experience working with lawmakers, partner organizations, and community members to drive change.
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences through various platforms.
  • Skilled in collaborating with a team to achieve shared goals and working independently to drive projects forward when needed.
  • Demonstrated strong self- and time-management skills while working collaboratively in a primarily remote environment.

Opportunity for Senior Policy Analyst Role

Candidates with substantial experience in policy research, advocacy, or children's health may be considered for a Senior Policy Analyst position. This senior role would involve additional leadership responsibilities, such as managing complex research projects, leading advocacy campaigns, mentoring junior staff, and playing a more prominent role in coalition building and strategic planning.

  • This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $55,000 to $65,000, based on experience. For those interested in a senior policy analyst position, a higher salary range may be available based on qualifications and experience.
