Karen is a highly accomplished leader with a distinguished career in both the non-profit and private sectors. She served as Executive Director of Voices for Utah Children for 13 years, where she was a tireless advocate for youth and families.
She later retired in May 2023 as Salt Lake County’s Director of Human Services, overseeing programs in Aging and Adults, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health, and more. Karen served on numerous boards, including Utah Community Action, the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation KIDS COUNT National Steering Committee.
She played a key role in expanding children’s health coverage, advancing full-day kindergarten, addressing intergenerational poverty, and opposing efforts to repeal in-state tuition for undocumented students.
