We Oppose A New ICE Facility In Utah

Yesterday, we learned about a warehouse facility (6020 W. 300 South) that was sold to the Department of Homeland Security for $145.5 million to be used for an ICE facility. We are deeply concerned about the negative consequences of having an ICE Facility in our state, especially for children in immigrant families.

Utah is home to over 304,000 immigrants who play a vital role in our economy and communities. They fill essential positions in sectors such as education, healthcare, manufacturing, and construction. Supporting crucial services from child care and elder care to building our roads and schools.

Over the past year, Utah has already seen an increase in ICE arrests in our state. An added ICE facility will only continue to increase ICE arrests and detentions. The data speaks for itself:

  • Since President Trump's second term started, 3,040 documented ICE arrests have occurred in Utah. [1]
  • In the past year, there have been a number of reports of inhumane detention conditions, with 2025 being the most deadly year for those in custody in the past two decades. [2]

This is not who we are as a state. This will not make us safer or stronger and will only increase family separations.

We strongly urge our state and local leaders to do everything possible to stop this from being realized in our state.
